Repent & Lament – January 10, 2021

Based on Psalm 51 and 88

LEADER:

Lord Hear our cries as we repent!

Have mercy on us, O God, according to your unfailing love;

According to your great compassion blot out our transgressions.

RESPONSE:

Lord, have mercy.

LEADER:

Forgive us for the ways we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, have

mercy on us as we have not honored your image in every human. For what

we have done and left undone, for the suffering we have caused others both

consciously and unconsciously –  blot out our transgressions.

RESPONSE:

Lord, forgive us.

LEADER:

Create in us a clean heart oh God and renew a right spirit within us.

Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us.

Lead us to join your redemptive work and to participate in your justice.

Help us receive your love and mercy and live empowered by your Spirit.

RESPONSE:

Lord, sustain us.

LEADER:

Lord hear our cries as we lament the brokenness in our world.

You are the God who saves us;

Day and night we cry out to you.

May our prayers come before you;

Turn your ear to our cries.

RESPONSE:

Lord, hear our laments.

LEADER:

We are overwhelmed with the troubles of just one week,

We have seen violence and hatred

We have seen death of those who could have lived.

RESPONSE:

Lord, draw close to those who mourn.

LEADER:

In these times your presence feels far from us.

We long for your mercy, your justice and your peace.

May your justice roll down like a mighty river.

Your righteousness like an ever flowing stream.

RESPONSE:

Lord, bring justice.

LEADER:

Remember us Lord, can you see our pain?

Our fear overwhelms us.

It is as though you have cut us off from your care.

We are overwhelmed with waves of sorrow

Our eyes are dim with grief.

RESPONSE:

Lord, heal our hearts. Lord, heal our land.

LEADER:

We call to you, Lord, every day;

We spread out our hands to you.

We have seen death and destruction in our country;

We have seen terror and senseless violence in our world.

But we cry to you for help, Lord;

In the morning our prayer comes before you.

RESPONSE:

Lord, hear our prayers.

LEADER:

God, we desire justice and reconciliation that stems from your leadership.

Jesus, we need your perfect love to cast out fear.

Spirit, we long for true unity that can only come from you.

RESPONSE:

Lord, guide our hands and feet that we may be led to action in your name.

LEADER:

All this we pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

RESPONSE:

Amen.
