A Prayer for our City
A Prayer for our City
A prayer by Nathan Cousins for Mill City Church
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
You know us
What we feel and what we want
Who we are and how we tick
What we yearn for, long for
To know and be fully known.
You constructed the roadmaps of our hearts
The fabric of our communities
The heartbeat of our city.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
In our city as it is in Yours.
You see us in our brokenness
Our fallen systems
Our striving governments
Our desperate communities.
In every street, alleyway, sidewalk,
Neighborhood, park, business,
Bar, riverfront, and government office,
There are groanings, whisperings,
To know, and be fully known.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
In our city as it is in Yours.
Awaken our hearts to your work all around us
Give us both the sensitivity and the courage
Eyes to see and hearts to respond
To what You are already up to
That we may see our neighbors, our streets, and our community
With Your eyes,
To be Your agents of redemption in our broken and beautiful city.
Keep us on the path of the religion of love
As Jesus taught us
To be his voice and hands and feet
To carry your redemption and resourcefulness within us
To light our city with your love and truth
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
In our city as it is in Yours.
Be with our government officials and city council,
Our police departments, school teachers, civil engineers, and postal workers.
May our city be one that honestly searches for you
And when we knock, may the door be opened.
Help us to always hold onto hope
And to see our fellows as the image of God
To know that you are present and always with us
Thank you for that incredible promise.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
In our city as it is in Yours.
Thank you that love us, and thank you that you like us,
Thank you for the gift of Jesus and that his love and sacrifice allow us
to approach you freely, without guilt or shame. We love you.
Amen.

Amen and amen. What a beautiful prayer, Steph, particularly as look ahead to the National Day of Prayer events we have coming up in early May.
May God bring healing to the many divisions that exist in our neighborhoods, communities, state, nation, and world for the sake and glory of His Kingdom!
On another note, thanks to those who prayed for me in preparation for and during my ordination council on Friday. God did an amazing work. Interestingly, when I gave my statement regarding women in ministry/ordination and asked for questions, no one said a word! In fact, I followed it up by saying, “Anybody? Anything?” NOT A ONE. My ordination was affirmed by a unanimous vote. Praise God! Thank you, friends.
